Corso 101

The Cane Corso is a Mastiff-type breed that originated in Italy, having descended from Roman war dogs. After the Roman Empire fell, the Cane Corso worked as a farmhand, flock guardian, property guardian, family guardian and hunting dog.

Cane Corso is a highly protective guard dog and can be frightening when necessary. However, if trained well, he can be extremely devoted and loving. A well-fenced yard is a must, or he will do what he feels is necessary to protect his and his family’s territory.

The Cane Corso is a very powerful breed and will challenge owners for pack leadership. Owners must be confident to handle these challenges. Early, consistent, and ongoing obedience training is necessary to keep the dog in his proper place. He can be gentle, submissive, and tolerant with children if socialized young.
